How to write a financial analyst resume

Financial analyst resumes should be built like the models they describe: driven by assumptions you can defend, outputs someone acted on. The weakest FP&A bullets stop at the artifact — “built budget model,” “prepared monthly reporting package.” The strongest continue to the decision: “Rebuilt the headcount model for a 600-person company; scenario analysis supported a hiring pause that protected $3.5M of runway.” For every deliverable you list, ask who used it and what changed; that clause is the bullet. Quantify the terrain — budget size, entities covered, forecast accuracy achieved, variance thresholds you investigated — and name the stack precisely: Excel at the power-user level goes without saying, so specify the differentiators (SQL, Power BI or Tableau, Anaplan or Adaptive, ERP data you pulled from). Distinguish your flavor of analysis clearly, because FP&A, corporate development, and investment analysis are separate keyword families and recruiters search them separately. Deal or fundraise support, if any, deserves precise scoping of your role — “built the operating model reviewed by lenders in a $25M raise” — without overclaiming ownership. Certifications and progress (CFA levels, FMVA) belong in their own line. The two-column template here presents dense analytical careers cleanly while keeping the underlying document linear for parsers.
